Let's make something beautiful

If you’re a Twitter user then you’ve no doubt seen the emergence of short video clips popping up on your stream. These are likely creations snapped with the new social video App called Vine.

6 Seconds or Less

Created by the moguls over at Twitter, Vine allows you to post 6 second video clips using a stop frame capture mechanism. Simply pushing down on the vine video viewer starts the recording. Lift your finger and recording stops. This method of capture allows you to quickly create choppy and succinct clips of whatever takes your fancy, and opens up a whole new channel of social sharing.

Keeping it Simple

The genius of Vine clearly lies in its simplicity. Have something you’d like to share with the world? Just hold down, shoot and share. With the sharing medium of video it’s also possible to cram in and convey your message with a fidelity far beyond the limits of 140 characters. However for all the positives that come with this ease of publication there are inherent potential negatives…

Users Beware

As with any social medium there’s always the issue of over-saturation and spam – this is especially a concern with Vine, as videos will start playing automaticity when you browse via the Vine mobile app, becoming a little too ‘in your face’ sometimes. There’s also the issue that Vine is an un-monitored service, so prepare yourself for the occasional fruity or offensive video.

More to Come

Although Vine’s initial launch was hampered with upload problems and various other technical woes it seems that a few weeks down the line, everything is more of less ironed out with the latest iteration of the App. At Empire HQ we’ve had a little play with it (we’re currently searching for its creative sweet spot) and we’re intrigued by it’s potential and more so the innovative ways it could be put to use…
